Our story

We're dedicated to building amazing houses and strong relationships

We take great pride in both the work we do and the relationships we build with the homeowners we serve. We listen attentively, which ensures our imaginative designs reflect your particular needs and vision. We are committed to creating the home and environment you desire.

We want you to enjoy the design and construction process just as much as your new living space. Looking through our portfolio will give you some idea of the variety and customization we can offer.

DBU came to fruition in 2006 after a lifetime long 'love story' in construction. Billy grew up with a father who built custom homes. He would attend work with his dad and brother and work on projects around the house, he always enjoyed watching a project become a home. In high school he enrolled at the local technical college to learn computer aided drafting and started working for a local draftsman at age 16. After graduating from high school, he attended Mesa College to get a certification in CAD and started his own drafting business- Hutto Design. While in the CAD program Billy met his future wife, Mariah. After Billy and Mariah received their CAD certifications, they transferred to CSU, Billy receiving a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, and Mariah with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. Billy worked for several architects, drafting to pay his way through college, and did construction in the summers. Mariah worked for a local Interior designer and grew her love for design. Billy and Mariah's interest in design and construction grew and it was obvious to them that the dream would be doing both design/drafting and building homes, in 2006 this became a reality as DBU was born. Billy truly believes that the integration of early design and drafting with the knowledge of construction result in the most streamlined home building process. We feel like the reason we have grown to have such a good reputation is because we can work though a lot of the pains of construction early on and catch possible issues while really diving into a realistic building budget. The early stages are so important to a smooth and beautiful project.

the back story

Billy and Mariah have three children- all boys, and all interested and active in different aspects of construction: drafting, welding, and engineering. Aiden (20) received his drafting certification and works full time drafting. Luke (20) attends Fort Lewis working towards a Bachelors in Structural Engineering. Brekin (17) is a Montrose High School Junior and is going to CMU for the welding certification program. It is a true joy having the boys work along side us and learning the family business. The longer we are in business the more wonderful people come to work with us. The face of DBU isn't just the family anymore. We have wonderful people in the office and in the field who work hard to make the business a success. We have 12 full time employees as well as seasonal employment during the summers. We are small but that is how we like it, we care for everyone that works here and we work well together to make each project a success.
